Patron Saint: Archangel Michael
Archangels are messengers of great and wondrous tidings.
Our Patron Saint is Archangel Michael, whose feast day is celebrated on November 8. This holy day is called the Synaxis (Greek, meaning a gathering of the faithful in honor of a saint or for reading passages from his biography) of the Archangel Michael and other Bodiless Powers. The Lord appointed Archangel Michael (in Hebrew his name means “who is like unto God”) as the Chief Commander over the nine ranks of angels. Archangel Michael cast down Lucifer and the other fallen spirits when they rebelled against God. Hence, in iconography Archangel Michael tramples the devil underfoot holding a spear or a fiery sword in his right hand.
Tropar (short musical composition) to Archangel Michael:
O ye foremost of the heavenly hosts, we who are unworthy beseech you,
That by your petitions ye encompass us with the shadow of your immaterial glory.
Preserving us who kneel and cry ceaselessly deliver us from oppression,
Since ye are the princes of the ranks of dominions on high.
